Petar Čulić was born on 26 June 1986 in Split. He received a Master’s degree in July 2008 at the Arts Academy of the University of Split in the class of the professor Goran Listeš. He was enrolled at the Academy as “especially gifted” before graduating from high school. He was a recipient of two Rector’s awards in the academic year 2005/06 for excellence in studying and for outstanding artistic achievements. The author continues his education with the postgraduate studies in Koblenz (Germany) at the “Koblenz International Guitar Academy“ in the class of the professor Hubert Käppel, where he graduated in May, 2010. The Municipality of Dugi Rat gave him the annual award for outstanding achievements in musical and cultural creation. Petar Čulić performed more than thousand times all along the country and in numerous cities like Buenos Aires, Rio de Janeiro, London, Wienna, Paris, Brussels, Brasilia and Sao Paulo. Besides five first prizes as a soloist and three first prizes as a member of chamber music ensembles in national competitions, he has also won numerous prizes in international competitions in Gevelsberg, Volos, Velbert, Weimar, Kutná Hora and other cities. Furthermore, he is the winner of the Young Musicians Concert Cycle “maestro Vinko Lesić” 2013/14. He played as a soloist with Rheinische Philharmonie, Mozart orchestra, Montenegrin Symphony Orchestra, Croatian Musical Youth Chamber String Orchestra and others. The foyer of the Croatian National Theatre in Split was home to Peter’s guitar recital on 16 May 2005 where he promoted his first CD. In 2012 he recorded an album with the vocal ensemble Cantores Maruli, the late actor Zlatko Crnković and the poet Marina Čapalija within the project “Story of Marko Marulić”as both musical and theatrical story about life and work of Marko Marulić. November 2014 brought out Peter’s second solo album with 12 original pieces, published by Menart and promoted on 13 November in the Croatian Music Institute in Zagreb. He actively participated in masterclasses given by Pepe Romero, Darko Petrinjak, Lorenzo Micheli, Fabio Zanon, Judicael Perroy, Zoran Dukić, Marcin Dylla, William Kanengiser, Scott Tennant, John Dearman, Matthew Greif, Pavel Steidl, Aniello Desiderio, Carlo Marchione, Tilman Hoppstock, Costas Cotsiolis, Marco Tamayo, Denis Azabagić, Ana Vidović, Alexis Muzurakis and many others. The French composer Colette Mourey composed three pieces for solo guitar as Hommage ä Petar Čulić (Sonata Appassionata, Toccatina Barbaresca, Variations Sérieuses). He has been composing since the age of 7 when he started his musical education but his first bigger inspiration was the novel “The Little Prince” by the writer Antoine de Saint-Exupéry.
